"An awesome time for four total beginners! The crew was top-notch, and the boat was in excellent shape." - Janet "Captain Johnny and Nick were fantastic! There were six of us on board, and everyone had a great time. We even enjoyed our fresh catch for lunch at the Key Fishery Restaurant right at the marina. Awesome experience all around!" - Gary "What an awesome trip! The crew was fantastic — laid-back, calm, and made everything feel easy with no pressure. We hit our limit on yellowtail, and their recommendation to have it prepared at Lazy Days was spot on. Couldn't have asked for a better day!" - Joseph
Let's break down the all-stars you might be reeling in:
Red Grouper: These bottom-dwelling bruisers are a real treat to catch. They love to hang around rocky areas and reefs, putting up a fight that'll make your biceps burn. Best part? They're delicious. Peak season is typically fall through spring, but we can find them year-round if we know where to look.
Atlantic Bonito: Don't let their size fool you – these speedsters punch above their weight class. They're like mini tunas, and when they're running, it's non-stop action. Spring and fall are prime times, but they can surprise you any time of year. Light tackle enthusiasts, this is your jam.
Wahoo: Hold onto your hats, folks. Wahoo are the drag-screamers of the ocean. These torpedo-shaped predators are built for speed and when they hit, you'll know it. Winter and early spring are usually best, but we've been known to hook into them year-round. Get ready for some of the fastest runs you'll ever experience.
Great Barracuda: With a face only a mother could love and teeth that'll make you glad you brought pliers, 'cudas are a blast to catch. They're ambush predators, so we often find them lurking around structure. They're here all year, but summer tends to be prime time. Light tackle or fly fishing for these guys is a real rush.
Black Grouper: The crown jewel of the reef. These big boys are the stuff of fishing legend around here. They're smart, they're strong, and they know every nook and cranny of their home turf. Winter and spring are typically best, but a skilled angler (that's where we come in) can coax them out year-round. Landing a big black grouper is a true Marathon milestone.
Look, I could go on all day about the fish we catch and the good times we have out there, but the truth is, you've gotta experience it for yourself. Whether you're looking to fill the freezer, check some species off your bucket list, or just enjoy a day on the water with good company, we've got you covered. The fish are out there waiting, and we know just where to find them. So what do you say? Ready to make some fishing memories in Marathon? Give us a shout, and let's get you booked. Trust me, your future self will thank you for it. See you on the water!

We had an awesome day on the water — all six of us caught fish! Ended the trip with 36 in total plus two sharks. The crew was friendly, helpful, and really made the experience enjoyable. When we got back to the dock, it was clear we had one of the most successful trips out there. Highly recommend!

The bite was a bit slow, but Captain Jim and Chance gave it their all to get us on the fish. They were dedicated, hardworking, and made sure we were having a good time throughout the trip. While we didn’t catch as much as we hoped, their effort never let up. Highly recommend this crew for a fun and well-run fishing experience!

Atlantic bonito are small but feisty members of the tuna family. They typically run 2-5 pounds and 15-25 inches long. You'll find them in coastal waters, often near the surface in large schools. Spring and fall are prime seasons as they migrate through. Anglers love bonito for their lightning-fast runs and acrobatic jumps when hooked. They put up an awesome fight on light tackle. While not the best eating, they make great cut bait for other species. To catch bonito, troll fast with small shiny lures or cast metal jigs into feeding schools. Watch for birds diving - that's a sure sign bonito are feeding below. A light spinning setup with 10-15 lb test is perfect. When you hook one, hang on tight and enjoy the ride!
Black grouper are the bruisers of the reef, averaging 15-30 pounds but capable of topping 100. You'll find them around rocky bottoms, reefs, and wrecks in 30-300 feet of water. They're most active in cooler months. Anglers love black grouper for their powerful fights and excellent table fare. The meat is sweet and flaky - perfect for sandwiches or grilled. When targeting them, use heavy tackle - 50-80 lb braid and stout rods. Live bait like pinfish or blue runners works best. Drop your bait right into structure and be ready to pull hard. These guys will try to dive back into their hole when hooked. My top tip: use a fish finder rig with a circle hook to increase your hookup ratio. Get ready for some serious weight on the end of your line!
Great barracuda are the menacing torpedoes of the reef. They can reach 5-6 feet long and 60+ pounds, with a mouthful of razor-sharp teeth. You'll spot them lurking around reefs, wrecks, and channel edges, often in shallow water. They're here year-round but more active in warmer months. Anglers target 'cudas for their explosive strikes and aerial acrobatics. While not great eating, they're a blast to catch. Use steel leaders - those teeth will slice through mono like butter. Topwater lures, tube lures, or live bait all work well. My favorite tactic is sight-casting to big ones cruising the flats. When you hook up, be ready for anything - jumps, runs, and even charges at the boat. Just watch those teeth when landing them!
Red grouper are a prized catch here in Marathon. These tough fighters average 5-10 pounds but can reach over 50. You'll find them near reefs, ledges and wrecks in 10-300 feet of water. They're most active in cooler months from fall through spring. Anglers love targeting grouper for their hard-fighting nature and excellent table fare. The meat is firm, flaky and mild - perfect for fish tacos. When fishing for red grouper, use heavy tackle and stout leaders. They like to dive for cover when hooked, so you've got to muscle them up quick. Live bait like pinfish works great, but they'll hit cut bait too. My go-to rig is a fish finder setup with a circle hook. Let it sit on the bottom and hold on tight when that rod bends!
Wahoo are one of the fastest fish in the sea, hitting speeds up to 60 mph. They're long and sleek, averaging 20-40 pounds but can top 100. You'll find them in open waters, often near drop-offs and floating debris. Summer and fall are peak seasons here. Anglers prize wahoo for their blistering runs and excellent eating. The meat is firm, white, and mild - great for grilling. To target wahoo, we troll at high speeds, 12-15 knots, with lures or rigged baits. Wire leaders are a must to prevent bite-offs. When a wahoo hits, it's like a freight train - be ready for screaming reels and spectacular jumps. My top tip: use a planer to get lures deeper, where the big ones lurk. It's an adrenaline rush you won't forget!
